KCELL goes twice weekly

Thursday, April 07, 2016

Wednesday 6th of April 2016 marked another mini milestone in the short history of KCELL Badminton Academy in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare. As part of our agreement with Badminton Ireland KCELL has expanded from one days training on our traditional Sunday slot in Kilcullen Sports Complex to now also offer a new midweek session to complement the already successful Sunday sessions.

Jennie Magee ( multiple Irish national WD champion) along with Mark and Ben Phelan led the first of those new Wednesday sessions with 15 children in attendance ranking from 8 to 17 years of age.

"It has always been my plan to add a second midweek session to the KCELL roster" said cell director Mark Phelan. "The kids attending will see huge benefits from attending a second time during the week but like all KCELL session we intend to push them hard and really take them out of their comfort zone"

"The timing of adding the Wednesday session was outside our control due to previous hall bookings. We effectively had to wait for a slot to become free in the very busy hall. Also coming into the summer it was always risky with so many other sports demanding the attention of all our young athletes. That being said I hope to build on the Wednesday sessions and add some more hours as demand dictates"

The first Wednesday session included Jennie focusing on inward and outward net spins as well as pushing the kids harder than they have ever been pushed with smash and net kill routines but adding speed and intensity to those attacking drills.

KCELL runs on Sunday's with two session from 10am to 11.45am and Midday to 1.45pm.  Wednesday's is one session with a maximum of 16 children from 6pm to 8pm
